Best Buddies Pennsylvania State Director - Matthew Stehl
Background
Matthew graduated from the University of Delaware with Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Philosophy. After graduation he quickly found himself attracted to non-profits and their ability to change lives. Matthew has over10 years of development and public relations experience working for non-profits in the Delaware Valley. Matthew enjoys spending quiet time at home with his wife, Melanie and two sons.
Why did you chose Best Buddies for employment?
I work for Best Buddies because of Richard. When I was about 12 years old family friends had a foster child with IDD stay with them for a summer. Richard and I played hockey, basketball and went swimming that summer. I can still picture Richard’s smile when he would make a basket or score a goal. I remember his foster mother saying what a difference I was making in such a short time and how that made me feel. For the first time I knew that I could make a difference. With Best Buddies I get to make a difference everyday.
What does friendship mean to you?
A life without friendship is a life not lived. In our busy lives we often take our friends for granted. It was not until I thought about Best Buddies mission that I truly appreciated the friendships I have and how empty life would be without friendship.
What are your goals for your state this year?
I want to strengthen the Best Buddies experience for all our participants and plant the seed of lifelong friendships. We will continue to grow and diversify our funding to meet our current funding needs and to expand in the future. I also want to raise the public awareness of all the great things we are accomplishing in Pennsylvania.
