Wednesday, March 3rd, “Spread The Word To End The Word” Day – a joint effort between Best Buddies and Special Olympics to end the casual, derogatory use of the “r-word,” or “retard(ed).”
Best Buddies chapters all over the world participated in this event by having their campuses and communities pledge to eliminate this hurtful word from their vocabulary.
Locally, the Deer Lakes High School chapter in Russellton was one of the many Best Buddies chapters that participated in this important event.
The chapter cut out handprints in the school’s green and gold colors for students to sign; the handprints are displayed in the school cafeteria.
Additionally, students who signed the pledge received “End The R-Word” pins and stickers. The chapter received over 150 pledges to add to the campaign’s 100,000+ signatures.
